Looking Forward to an Outstanding Concert
The duo made their debut back in 2011 at the Big Guitar Weekend Festival, were recipients of the 2015 Enterprise Music Scotland Artists-in-Residence Award, and have since become established as Scotland’s foremost voice and guitar duo. They have performed widely across Scotland and Spain, including events such as Classicos en Verano chamber music in Madrid, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Westbourne Music (Glasgow), and were recorded and interviewed for the BBC Radio Scotland Classics Unwrapped programme. Their performances have been described as “Quality music at its best, - classical guitar and a voice to die for!”.
Indeed BBC Radio Scotland’s presenter Jamie McDougall commented, “I was immediately taken by their understanding of the style and how they captured the mood and dynamic of the songs with enormous ease. Although I know Alison enjoys performing a wide range of repertoire she has a special connection with Spanish music. Sascha is a world-class soloist in his own right, but also an excellent accompanist. They complement each other perfectly. Repertoire is something they work hard at, arranging much of what they perform.”
Alison is already well known in Inverclyde, Glasgow, and Dunoon, where she directs the Voices of Argyll ladies’choir, and she also works with RSNO Junior Chorus, Scottish Opera and Inverclyde Junior Choir. As a traditional musician she is fiddler and singer in the award-winning Folk Rock Band Reely Jiggered , who won the 02 abc SoundWave Music competition in 2014. But as a lyric soprano she has already been amazingly successful, having performed as soloist all over the world, including UK, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Austria, Japan, USA, and Mexico. She has broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Radio Scotland, as well as Spanish and Mexican TV.
Sasha is currently pursuing a Post Graduate degree at RCS, but as soloist has already given concerts across Europe in Italy, Spain, and the UK as well as Iran. In the UK his concerts included recitals at guitar festivals in London, the North-East, Shrewsbury, and Bath. He has also performed as soloist with the RSNO and the European Union Youth Orchestra. He has worked in notable collaborations with flautist Lee Holland and the Red Note Ensemble. Back in 2011 he was 1st prize winner in the North-East Scotland Guitar Society Award, and also won 1st prize in the 2010 Chanterelle Guitar award.
Sunday’s recital programme by the duo looks first rate, with variety, colour, and top-quality entertainment/music making being the likely buzzwords for the evening. The music includes 4 French Folksongs by Seiber, 3 Scottish Folksongs, fabulous Spanish songs, and highly effective guitar solos by Manuel De Falla.
It should not come as any surprise if this concert sells out, - so buy a ticket now to avoid disappointment! Enjoy!
